"You Don't Think She's Mine Do You?!"

I've had an issue since Lily Kate has been born.

Whenever I hold her out in public I get looks.

You know what I mean, the looks that plainly show that they wonder what in the world I'm doing with her.
People look at me very questioningly.

And it makes me uncomfortable. It makes me not want to hold her in public. It makes me self conscious.

I've even had a women ask...how nosy can you get? :D

I was at a cosmetics store with my mom, Levi, and Lily Kate. I was holding Levi's hand and Mama was holding Lily Kate in her car seat. This really "put together" sales lady with super high heels and immaculate make-up was showing us different powders and all the "deals" you could get and when she finished she asked, "So who's babies are these?"

That's pretty pointed.

"Well..They're actually all mine!" my mom replied with a laugh.

I thought I should have said, "Well whose babies do you think they are nosy?" But I figured that wasn't exactly the way to win friends and influence people and was definitely not Christ-like! :) But I would have loved to see the look on her face!:D

How nosy can you possibly be? :)

I want a T-shirt that says in big capital letters "I'M NOT HER MOM I'M HER BIG SISTER!" printed on the front and back of the shirt.

But I'm trying to learn not to care what people think when they see Lily Kate ,and me together. Because, after all, I can't please everybody and I shouldn't try to. I don't like being looked at and I don't like being asked questions like that but does it really matter what they think? There's always going to be someone looking at me the wrong way. And if I get irritated by it I'm a pretty sensitive person! :)

I've found it's not easy being fourteen years older than my little sister. It's not easy holding her in public when my mom's checking out. But I'm trying to learn not to be disturbed by what people think of me when they see us together. I don't have any reason to be. The Lord knows my heart and that's just about all that really matters.

But boy is it irritating! ;)

Remember my post that had the quote, "A person with inner dignity is never embarrassed"? I'm working on that inner dignity!:P

Abigail~

You just be proud that your Mom and Dad are being obedient to God and being fruitful and multipling. It is really no ones business but, we as humans, are nosy. Just smile and say, "isn't my sister a sweetie".

It broke my heart reading this post. I can't believe people would do that! Siblings are such a blessings. :)

It is hard to believe that someone would just come out and ask that.
I sometimes have a hard time remembering that it doesn't matter what other people think too. Yes, it can be hard. :)

I can't help but laugh because I remember being 14 or 15 at the mall the day after thanksgiving and holding...well...I don't even know who?! haha...must have been Carrington I guess...well anyways, we were at the mall and I was holding her on a bench waiting for Monica and your mom to get out of the store when another teenage girl came and sat by me. She looked at me, shook her head and said, "girl, I know how it feels. I've got 2 of my own at home." I didn't know what to say so I just nodded and smiled and politely told her that she was not my daughter, just my cousin.

:) don't worry about what others think...you've got a pretty great family.

I know just what you mean! I'm 17 and have 5 younger siblings (one of which is just a year old) and I had people comment and sometimes they think my older brother is the dad! I've learned to laugh and just go on but it can be hurtful. I guess people don't think families are close anymore or they think every teenager has a child. Anyway, I enjoyed your post. God bless.

P.S. If you'd like, stop by my blog. Footprints in the Sand is my main blog.

I thought it was funny to see the cashier's reaction when I said "she's my oldest (pointing to you) and she's my youngest (pointing to Lily Kate). You really can't worry what people think- "man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart" is a good verse to remember. Live your life to please Him and don't worry about what people think.
I love you dearly!
Love,
Mama
